Project Description: This project summarizes the experiences from different projects in Norway, which implemented capping of contaminated sediments with clean soil. These capping projects have been implemented over 25 years in marine sediments including fjord and harbour areas. The first capping project was implemented in 1992 and since then more than 20 capping projects have been implemented. Isolation capping with an active layer (generally activated carbon), as well as thin layer capping (cap thickness less than 15 cm) have yielded a large amount of data for projects in Norway. Various capping materials have been utilized for these projects.
