Project Description: This project’s objective was to restore a 70.5-acre area in a nearby marsh in Adams Point, a historic peninsula at the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The project evaluated the effects sediment thickness and sediment composition had on the restoration of marshes, as well as compared the use of TLP on low vs high marsh communities. The reserve set up 40-50 treatment plots with different sediment thicknesses within the study site. The sediment thicknesses studied were 7 cm and 14 cm. Sediment was composed of a mixture of sand, silt, and clay with a small addition of local mud. Results indicated that a thicker sediment addition, 14 cm, was optimal for the restoration of degraded marshes, their higher elevation kept pace with sea level change.
