Project Description: This project evaluated the impact of elevation, sediment type, and layer thickness on the success of marsh restoration in the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The project tested two levels of sediment thickness, 7 cm and 14 cm. About 40-50 sediment treatment plots were set up in the 54-acre study site. A mixture of sand, silt, and clay with a small addition of local mud was utilized for each treatment plot. An additional treatment plot incorporated a small amount of biochar to enhance the marsh soil and ecosystem. Results indicated that thicker additions of sediment, 14 cm, were suggested for the restoration of marshes.
